Abour Safer
“Safer” is a social design project developed as a final bachelor thesis at the Vilnius Academy of Arts. It aims to address one of today’s most pressing issues – pedestrian safety – by creating an innovative, functional, and socially responsible mobile application. The core idea is to empower people, especially those living in rural and suburban areas, to move safely and confidently on foot.
Project goal:
The aim was to develop a complete brand identity for a mobile app that helps pedestrians navigate their environments more safely, particularly in rural or poorly lit areas. Rather than relying solely on infrastructure improvements, “Safer” offers a design-based solution through recognizable visuals, friendly tone, and attention-grabbing graphics that inform and protect.
About the design:
The visual identity was built on the concept of movement, security, and simplicity. The logotype combines a custom geometric typeface with a stylized human figure in motion – a symbol commonly used in pedestrian signage. The figure walks toward the text, metaphorically moving into a safer space, reinforcing the app’s core message.
The color palette is inspired by road safety visuals: a strong blue symbolizes trust and calmness, while yellow acts as a visual alert, commonly used in reflective gear and traffic signs. Supporting colors include orange and light gray to enhance readability and visual hierarchy.
Typography plays a vital role in ensuring clarity. A clean, rounded sans-serif font (“Lexend”) was chosen for its legibility and soft, approachable look. Iconography and illustrations follow a linear style with color accents to emphasize important elements. Every part of the brand system was designed to be clear, user-friendly, and instantly understandable – crucial for a safety-oriented product.
Conclusion:
“Safer” is more than just an app – it’s a brand built to support confident, independent movement. Through a consistent and meaningful visual system, it aims to make safety visible, emotional, and empowering.
